A.    INTERMEDIATE LEAGUES (Grades 5-6)
 
1.   Playing Rules
-          High School rules apply, with the following exceptions:
·         1st, 2nd and 3rd quarters
     - man-to-man defense is mandatory
           - there is no pressing over half-court on any throw-in
           - during continuous action only man-to-man pressure is allowed in the backcourt
           - in the 4th quarter any defense is allowed
           - double-teaming is allowed only in the frontcourt
-     The foul line will be set at 13 feet.
-          Games will consist of four (4) eight-minute periods (with the clock stopping as close to 4 minutes as possible, preferably on a dead ball, for substitution. (this is not a time-out and players are to get on the floor immediately so that the game can continue.
-          There is no halftime break.
-          Coaches are not allowed on the court during substitution.
-          There will be three (3) one-minute time-outs and one (1) twenty-second time out per team per game.
-          There is no three-point shot in the Intermediate Leagues even in the “A gym.
-          There is only one assistant coach allowed on a team’s bench during games.
-          The 15 point “blow-out” rule supercedes all other rules.
·         anytime that a team is ahead by 15 or more points, that team is not allowed to “press”
      until such time that the lead is down below 10 points. The enforcement of this rule is to
      blow whistle and make pressing team  fall back behind half-court.
-          Tie games:
·         There will be one (1) three-minute overtime period at the end of a tie game.
·         If the game is still tied at the end of the extra period, then the game will be declared a draw.
·         The only exception to the tie game rule would be a playoff game.
 
2.         Playing Time Rules
-          All players must play an equal amount of time (within a half quarter of each other player).
-          All eligible players present at the game must play in the 4th quarter.
-          Any eligible player may play in an overtime period. There is no substitution in an overtime period.
-          At the beginning of the 4th quarter the scorer will notify a coach if there is any player in danger of not fulfilling the minimum playing time requirement. That player must play the remainder of the game.
-          Players who arrive late must and can only play ½ the time remaining in the game.
-          When replacing a player who is injured, has fouled out or been ejected, the coach must select his/her player who is nearest in ability to the player being replaced, while still following the basic playing time rule.
 
 
 
 
3.      Player Conduct Rules
-          players are expected to exhibit good sportsmanship at all times
-          any player involved in a physical confrontation will be immediately ejected from the game and will be suspended for the team’s next game
-          any player committing a flagrant intentional foul will be immediately ejected from the game
-          High School rules apply in regards to technical fouls.
-          All players and parents must sign the NYBA Code of Conduct.
